PopEye Cartoons DVD

As kids, many of us couldn't wait to get in front of the TV and watch our favourite cartoons, from Gummy Bears to Popeye. We would get enthralled by these shows for hours, forgetting about everything and everyone and simply enjoyed the fantasy world before us. Unfortunately, we all grow up and soon we don't have the time, as much as we wish we did, to watch these hilarious animated characters that used to keep us laughing for ages. One of these popular TV shows that kept us entertained were the Popeye cartoons and for those that wish they had the time to watch this sailor man get up to mischief, you can finally get a DVD to make that wish come true.

The History of Popeye the Sailor Man

We all know of Popeye as the sailor who got superhuman strength from eating cans of Spinach. Popeye was created by cartoonist Elzie Segar who also created the cartoon strip Thimble Theatre. He first appeared in the cartoon in 1929 and from that moment became one of the greatest cartoons ever. Popeye, with his one good eye without us ever knowing what happened to his other and his corncob pipe is a cartoon character that has made many people laugh. Now, almost 80 years later, the Popeye cartoons can be bought on DVD. With his girlfriend (or sometimes referred to as his wife) Olive Oyl and the brute Bluto, this history of Popeye can be relived.

The Legacy of Popeye

Since his creation, Popeye has become renowned around the globe and much has been done to remember him and in the honour of his character. From Popeye cartoon DVDs to children's entertainment, Popeye continues to live on.

" Comic Books: There were many Popeye comic books created by various companies, namely King Comics, Charlton Comics and Dell. On the 70th anniversary of Popeye's creation, a comic strip was released which depicted the wedding of Popeye and the love of his life, Olive Oyl.

" Radio: Although no longer broadcast, Popeye and a group of the main cast did a 15 minute show on radio. Broadcast over three different networks, three times a week, the show replaced the spinach reference with Wheatena, the sponsor of the radio broadcast.

" Film: With comedian Robbie William as Popeye, a movie was directed by Robert Altman with most of the original characters making their appearance. Scripted by a fan of the comic strip, the movie was filmed on the Island of Malta in a village that has now become a tourist attraction.
