He's one of history's most beloved fictional detectives. Rathbone portrayed Holmes in 14 movies altogether, as well as in the radio series and on stage. The Watson to his Holmes was portrayed by Nigel Bruce.

The Radio Shows

Perhaps one of the true treasures of he Sherlock Holmes DVD collection from The Vintage Theatre is the collection of radio shows featured on Disc 2. The show ran for nearly 8 years, and over 150 episodes have been found. The last episode aired on July 7, 1947, making these broadcasts a true rare find and a gem for Holmes aficionados.

The TV Series

From October 1954 until October 1955, the Sherlock Holmes TV series featured Ronald Howard in the title role. Regularly featuring Holmes, Watson, and Inspector Lestrade, the Scotland Yard inspector who makes up for in enthusiasm and tenacity what he might lack in detective skills. 20 episodes on discs 3 and 4 of the Sherlock Holmes DVD collection provide endless hours of excitement and intrigue.
